The Australasian College of Phlebology (ACP) was founded in 1993 and is the largest phlebology society in Australia and New Zealand. The ACP has established one of the most comprehensive training programs for medical practitioners who wish to specialize in this field. The ACP actively promotes education and research in phlebology and serves the general public as a resource regarding vein disorders. Public educational initiatives such as lectures, workshops and media interviews are undertaken by College Fellows on a regular basis, as well as annual international conferences. The College also provides a valuable source of information to government and industry concerning venous disease and new developments.
Dr. Kurosh Parsi
Dr. Kurosh Parsi, FACD, FACP is a dermatologist, phlebologistand vascular anomalies(birthmarks) specialist. He is a medical graduate of the University of Sydney and obtained his Master of Science in Medicine degree from the University of New South Wales (UNSW).
Dr. Parsiís basic science research has focused on the basic properties of detergent sclerosants and in particular their interaction with coagulation, antithrombotic and fibrinolytic mechanisms. This work is done in affiliation with the Department of Haematology, St. Vincentís Hospital, Sydney. His clinical research in phlebology has focused on deep vein sclerosis and Ďsclerothrombusí as well as travellerís thrombosis. His research in dermatology has been on pigmented purpuric dermatoses (PPD), vascular malformationsand reticulate eruptions.
Dr. Parsi specialises in endovenous laser ablation (EVLA), catheter directed sclerotherapy (CDS), ultrasound guided foam sclerotherapy (UGS), management of vascular malformations, diagnosis and management of vascular skin problems such as leg ulceration, reticulate eruptions and PPD.
Dr. Parsi is the founding editor of the Australian and New Zealand Journal of Phlebology. Positions held include President, Australasian College of Phlebology (current); Specialist Dermatologist, St Vincentís Hospital, Sydney; Staff Specialist in Dermatology and Vascular Anomalies, Sydney Childrenís Hospital; Conjoint Senior Lecturer, UNSW. A/Professor Kurosh Parsi (Sydney Phlebologist / Vein Specialist) is the current Associate Editor of the Australasian Journal of Dermatology and serves on the Editorial Board of Phlebology: The Journal of Venous Disease.
